Hi all you 914 world members! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm a new member, but I've been surfing this site for research purposes.
I am looking at a 74 1.8 914, yellow in color. (happens to be my favorite color) It needs a little love. No, more than a little. Here's a list as best as what I could come up with by looking at the car in person. Ignition switch/key, it won't start cuz the guy lost the key Battery tray rusted out and replaced with some angle iron. kind of a hack job. Rear of the floor pan is rusted out Trunk floor rusted out. The driver's left rear quarter is bent up under itself between the wheel well and the bumper. It could use some body work, but really not a whole lot The bumpers are kinda nasty Seats are ripped, carpet is out. The car is a complete car It has 2.0L wheels on it, and the guy has owned it for 7 years or so, and up until last january he was driving it. He is firm at his asking price of 1600 for the car. Sorry, I know, I know. This thread is worthless without pics. Yes, but all I had was my cell phone camera and I don't even know how to get the pics off of it. Sorry, it's the best i could do. If you want to know about any other specific areas of the car, try to jog my memory, and i will do my best to describe them. I was wondering if this is a fair price for such a car, and would it be worth it to buy it up. If I did buy it, I would probably sell my other projects and get to work on restoring this bad boy. Let me know what you think, Thanks, Jon |

You guys have no idea how lucky you are with so much choice, you should see what I am putting back on the road... "what doesn't kill ya, makes you stronger!" jonvo4591, there are cars that pop up all the time, especially if you can shop farther south. it would be worth it to research texas/okla/newmex/az through this site and buy a 1-way plane ticket when you find the right car. on the other hand, i just saw a great car on the detroit craigslist, it was a repo and it looked friggin' bully for $2600. i couldn't get my brother there in time or else it would have been mine! make a list of priorities, and don't jump at horsepower... you can build that later. find a good tub with sound electrical and a running engine that leaks as little as possible. you'll tinker with it until all your money is gone. then get more money, tinker and learn some more until that's gone, repeat, repeat... |
