My son took the teener to a VW show in Sacramento. (It says Volkswagenwerk on the door sticker, doesn't it?)

On the 4 lane freeways like I5 there is a phenomenon that I like to call "2nd lane wannabes and 3rd lane slo-boys" it occurs when folks get on the freeway on the right and immediately move to the #2 lane because they "don't like to deal with merging traffic"...they don't speed up to freeway speed...they just move over and get in the way....the 3rd lane wannabes are going approximately the same speed as the #2 lane but would very much like to be near the "fast lane" as I jokingly refer to it. The result of this behavior is that the freeway is reduced to at least a 3 lane road and in some cased a 2 lane road because of poor speed control.....and don't even get me started on poor car control, whether caused by cell phones or not, many drivers cannot keep themselves in a single lane to save their lives...it's embarrassing. In my experience, European drivers are fast and generally show good car control and seldom seem distracted, well maybe a few of the Italian drivers were a little crazy but what are you gonna do?
