73 914 w/ 74 2.0 dual weber 40's. finally sorted out the linkage problem and car starts right up , idles a little rough @ about 1000 rpms. decided to take a little spin before balancing the carbs. no such luck, clutch (which is new) won't engage in any gear, just grinds and the engines revs up to about 2000 when the clutch is dpressed, now i'm depressed. never touched the center tunnel when i switched the engine out, clutch and accellerator cables are the same. could they be croosed or tangled somewhere?

scott beat me to it... I remember this issue popping up quite a few times... once I fixed this on mine, my accel cable started 'hanging' after a full-throttle punch because it got into a bind...

Well, we have all BTDT... When you replace the throttle cable (the first time) you will also most likely make the same mistake. The fix is simple..seeing in the tunnel is not. The throttle cable does a single loop around the clutch cable.. the fix, as stated above is to remove the throttle cable from the pedal, then, with a mirror, figure out which way you need to unwrap it from the clutch cable... Good luck. RIch |

Good luck. RIch [/quote] truer words have never been spoken, after taking out the center console (5th time) it ain't goin back in till i put 1000 miles on this car. i reached around and fiddles with the cable, accelerator cable nut was just about off , tightened it down in the tunnel and at the linkage and the accelation problem seems to have been fixed. car still won't go into gear. pedal only travels about 2 -3 inches and is mushy as heck. when you push it down by hand. it doesn't come up to the stop in the cluster, i.m hoping the cable needs to be tightened and thats all. unfortunatly i have a previous commitment to a bottle of patron silver and the deep end of my pool. i will fight that fight on the weekend. p.s. rich i rewired the horn button again like you said and it seems solid. unfortunatly i had to take the steering wheel off to get my head to the cluster, so we'll have to wait on that also. christ i'm long winded tonight, again thanks to all |
