Is it time for a Group Buy and unify all the peeps? Believe me, I'm not trying to cause a ruckus.

This is certainly not what I expected down here.

I put in a bid. Not surprised, and quite hilarious.

It'd be nice to get rid of the two forums thing. Perhaps a commnity acquisition and then a merger into 914world.

My one issues is 914world is run on perl on a windows host, which is why you see it go down so often.

I can provide unix hosting on a T1, and have unix boxes of various flavors in colocation on an even better circuit.

One world, one forum, reliable military grade SUN hardware and UNIX.

Can you recall the last time it went down?

Not once since we got the new server ... That's a 0 with a capital Z ...

PS: And it's not Perl. Never was Perl. Never will be Perl.

Oops excuse me. PHP/Perl/MySql.

All things meant for UNIX that really do not work well under windows. The windows versions of such are usually also writtens and not as well supported, perform half as well and work half as long.

If it has not gone down for a while, just wait. It will only be a matter of time. After all, it is relying on Win32.

Meanwhile the same stuff running under UNIX will be up for years.

BTDT. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif)

You could run this stuff on a 5 year old x86 linux box with much better reliability and performance.

You sir have spent too much time locked up in the basement ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

FastCGI under IIS 6/7 is just as fast as any Linux/Unix implementation of PHP i have seen.
MySql 5.x is actually faster under Windoooze 2008 Server than it is on Linux.

I did some extensive back to back testing for my latest project, a MySql/PHP based enterprise solution with thousands of concurrent users (hardware devices, not people) and 16 databases with millions of rows of data that each see hundreds of queries a second.

I'm afraid the technology train has left the station without you...

Hey if I start my post with an insult, will it make me look more knowledgeable and credible? I will take the high road.

Let us see your results, and the hardware setup and tuning parameters for each operating system as well as linux driver levels.

Come back to me with quantifiable data, and actual results, instead of insults and banter.

Sorry, Enterprise and Win32 x86 hardware do not go together. You also cherrypicked some things out there, the linux usually.

Also running mysql and php on windows, apps originally written for UNIX and ported to windows? Yeah again, good luck going "enterprise" with that especially for win32.

You want enterprise on intel? Hope you have some serious intel hardware with EFI to call it "enterprise"

I deal with real enterprise hardware and systems daily.

Here is a taste for you.

This is a lowly sunfire V490.

Half of a solaris cluster with redundant multipathing and redundant switching fabric to support said multipathing.

We do the same with linux. We have uptimes in the years with multiple high availability Oracle databases across multiple hosts.

Want to see what linux can do? I can post some configs and uptimes that you would be hard pressed to find windows boxes doing anywhere. I deal with them daily as well.

Chicago mercantile exchange, linux. 100% through. Trading to web. All unix powered for anyof remote importance.

Barclays bank? Linux and solaris 100% for anything of importance.

Ever hear of trusted solaris? Ever hear of open solaris? Ever hear of the NSA flavor of linux called SElinux?

Yes win32 can not hold a candle to any of them. There is a reason that the NSA modified linux.

Any other enterprise class real deal database and environment? UNIX 100%. Makes the world go around.

Looks like the technology train left you behind....... in 1969.

(IMG:http://ozguru.mu.nu/Photos/2005-11-11--Dilbert_Unix.jpg)

Ball is in your court mate. You are welcome to stop by the basement and see the real computers doing real work sometime, or post some quantifiable results on 100% identical hardware with appropriate tweaks to each or lack thereof to backup your claims.
