Quick fuel troubleshooting question (resolved!), "What was I thinking when I did that" moment. Options

I have been working on getting my wife's Half Six put back together so it actually runs on all four cylinders.

I got it all together tonight and attempted to fire it up. Turns over, but no start. I checked the fuel pump...coming on as it should. Check spark, spark is good.

I pulled the fuel supply line in the engine bay, fuel is there....pull the fuel line on the other side of the regulator....nothing, dry as a bone.

Pull the regulator off, and clean it out. Reach in and push the diaphragm...it opens and I am able to blow through it. Put it all back together, sans the discharge line from the regulator....try it again, no fuel.


I have not made any changes to the fuel pump or the regulator whatsoever. I have checked to make sure I don't have the fuel lines swapped (obviously). I have it plumbed exactly like Pelicans diagram.

I have the Optima battery that I took out of it a year ago, it does not seem weak, it turns the engine over fine.

So......what would cause fuel to get to the regulator, but not through it? Any ideas?
