I just brought home a 73 1.7. This is the first 914 that I have actually owned, but not the first one that I have driven. My dad has always had a few 914's around and I finally decided it was time to get one of my own. When I first picked up the car, it ran pretty good and smooth. The original fuel injection has been removed and replaced with some duel single barrel weber carburetors and it has a 009 distributor. Like I said, the car ran pretty good when I first got it about 2 weeks ago. For the past 2 weeks I haven't driven the car more than just around the block, and suddenly, out of the blue, I went to go move the car and it is running bad. It has a definite misfire and, when I pull the plug wires off the distributor cap, 3 and 4 seem not to be firing. I have checked compression in those two cylinders and they are fine. I am getting fuel (I can see that the carb is squirting gas), and I have also tested to see that I was getting spark on those two cylinders. If I have spark, fuel, and compression, what am I missing? How could it just change overnight? I am pretty stumped here, my dad, who has worked on these things for over 20 years is also pretty stumped. Any ideas or help would be very appreciated.

Yeah, and I schooled him (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) . But his car wasn't running good, so it wasn't fair. I did like that car, but right after getting it, he sold all of the 914's other than the 993. I am trying to get him back into them now, and with my car, he is getting a little interested again. |

Your dads was a 6 too from what i remember. I was thinking with a little work that could have been one of the fastest, if not the fastest car we have out there. Sucks he got rid of them. Let me know if you cant get those dual carbs figured. I have a couple progressive setups sitting around if you want to try one out. Not an ideal setup by any means but it might be a quick fix for now to get you on the road. |
