This may be a stupid question...however my dad always said the only stupid questions are the ones not asked.
I am converting to a 2.7 six and I wanted to dress up the front compartment a little and add a removable felt covered board above the gas tank to hide the hoses and water bottle etc. I would have a cut out for the filler and the brake. It would be a lot easier to make it fit if I didn't have the expansion tank in place. What do you guys think. |

If you go with carbs, you don't need the evaportion control system. Sixes sold in California had to have it, but the other 47 states and Rest of World did not. The 47 state /6 does not/never had the charcoal canister. However, the expansion tank vents to the atmosphere via a "Y" connection to the tank over-fill hose and vents below the car. You can remove the expansion tank and vent from the filler neck to the "Y" connection and you will have a clean top for your carpet. Just don't spill gas on it. I have never figured out why the expansion tank was installed in non-Cali sixes since it vents to the atmosphere anyway just like the carbs do. And, I have never had a problem with vapors. Don |
