I saw this on CL and thought it was interesting.

Okay, so I am going to be the dude that pipes up and says he does not understand all the hate.

Lots of 914s were turned into kit cars in the 70s and 80s and 914s are still being sought for conversions and kits today. This one seems to be pretty well thought out. I've seen way worse.

Is it because it no longer looks like a 914 any more? Neither do most race cars, but we fawn over them. Is it the paint? The 80s-tastic Miami Vice paint job can be re-sprayed. Not much 914 in it any more... have you seen what the tube frame cars are reduced to before the FG bodies we so love are put on?

So why is it that most 914 body conversions get beat up on - even the well executed ones, but we get all weak in the knees for engine swaps, tube frames, and other such conversions?

You aren't going to get the same money for a highly modified car (or a lightly modified car) as a stock one. The body style is not something that I would do. But its pretty far from crap and Janet Reno naked.

My flamesuit is on. Go for it. But I am curious as to why we bag on anyone who does something visually different with their car. I wonder if we would have flamed the Scari dude so hard or this guy if they had been members when doing their conversions.

These are all good points. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One's art form can takes many paths. Whatever floats your boat. I think a stock 914 looks mighty pretty just the way she is.
