I want to build a 914 that can swim at least as fast as a type 166 vw or the amphicar

The motor is not the problem to drive the prop. The transaxle is. You need a pto shaft, which means some sort of transfer case or a 4WD selectable transaxle. No would have to adapt a different transmission to the T4. Maybe one out of an Eagle or a Brat. Not sure of the drive train on those.
