What information can be pulled form a VIN number?

Is it possible to tell what displacement engine the car originally had?
4702902691

I know the second 2 numbers tell it was a 1970 MY

Not much. Since your's is a '70 914-4, it came from the factory with a 1.7L D-Jet engine and 5 speed manual transmission. There are other tags about build date and paint code but they are not on the VIN tag.
