Is there an online resource where I can plug in my car's VIN and have it tell me the correct serial numbers for the engine, tranny and also indicate the paint code?

Thanks

Nick

U might check the Vin registry here and at Club. If it was listed earlier the previous owner trail might help verify info.

You can get the paint code from the Karmann badge in the forward driver side door jamb.

Top number is the chassis number WWD9### and is interpreted:
WW = Week of the Year
D = Day of Week
9 = Karmann Factory
### = Car off the line

The bottom number is the paint code: L041 = Black

Hmmm, the p914.com site has it as L041 and the World site has L04I (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
The code in the image appears to me to be a 1
