I'm looking for the best newbie, super clear rebuild book for a 914 '76 2.0.

I only expect to have to remove the heads & cylinders, but want to do it right, and won't have a ton of time to do it.

Any best guides would be really great! Thanks

BTW, I did find a find nice visual called "Van's Porsche 914 rebuild" here:

The video is good but doesn't cover every step in a rebuild, unless your using one of jakes kits, (then the parts not covered are already done for you)

The Haynes manual is good, Tom wilsons how to rebuild your Volkswagen air-cooled engine is good, I found the best combination, all of the above and this website. Also Jake has a website and forum also, lots of good tech info there.

Good luck,
Jeff

I got the VW air-cooled engine book. It seems that most of the 914 details are almost an afterthought, though poignant as well... Is Jakes DVD really worth it? Seems many seem to think so, eh?

I also saw the Haynes Manual getting low reviews on Amazon, in that it doesn't have many aspects covered in the original shop manual, such as torque specs.

I have to do a compression test on the running engine; pull the engine from the Vanagon, do a leakdown test, then yank the heads and cylinders, replace the rings (which I believe is the issue with the bogged power) and all in double quick time... what are the pitfalls and which is teh number one guide...

I guess the DVD is good from prewatching, but for in the moment issues it seems that Tom Wilson's aircooled is the best?

Anyone look at that link I sent with tons of good pics? Any feedback there?

Thanks VERY much for all your insight everyone! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif)
