Okay so I am repainting my trunks in my LE. I had some paint put into cans when I bought the paint originally. Just so I would have it for touchup & whatever. I have gone through all 3 cans & am not finished. Painting with the rattle can has been a bit of a challenge. Now I need to get some more paint.
So should I just get a couple more in rattle cans? Or should I buy a paint gun at Harbor Freight? If I buy a gun do you have one you would recommend for a novice? Also if I go that route do I have to do anything different with the paint? When I get it in the can do I have to mix anything? |

Do you have any spare metal you can test with?
Do you have a regulator on the spray gun? What psi are you spraying at? How much are you thinning that paint? What size tip are you using? I think you should get a big sheet of metal or plastic and test your settings (letting it dry) to get better.. |

The paint I am using is Valspar. I am using the 8:1:1 ratio they recommended with the paint. I am not sure what size tip I am using though. For now I am happy with my results. I think at some point I am going to take the plunge. Then do a full on paint job on a 914. For now I think my painting is going to take a break. The pics of my paint suck. It really turned out pretty good. Especially considering it was my first time. The interior paint is all covered anyway. I only did the interior as I had done some of it in the rattle can. This looks so much better even though it is going to be covered anyway. The trunks look good. The rear trunk lid I painted the underside of. I was worried about this one too but I think it came out fine. So overall I am happy with my paint work. Is it concours? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) well no obviously not. It will look very nice & under close inspection (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) . I appreciate all the advice on painting. When I get to trying this on a bigger scale. I will revisit all of this. |
