I have a 1972 1.7L 914 and i want a shorter more direct throw. I have been reading a couple of posts about the rennshift. It seems to be a great shifter for the 914 but it is a bit pricey compared to the Weltmeister short shift kit. Would the cheaper Weltmeister shifter still feel better than stock with all the bushing replaced?? They say that the throw is reduced 30 percent which is the same as the rennshift. Do you guys think it is worth going with the Rennshifter or do you think i would be happier with the Weltmeister shifter.
Thanks |

I installed the Weltmeister in my side shifter last year and it does exactly what it says it does - makes the shift throws about 20-30% shorter. It will not make your car shift any better or worse. And yes, the shift lever is also shorter and your hand doesn't fall onto it quite as easily. I had to adjust the linkage a little bit when I first installed it - but now that I am used to it I find that it works well.
For those fortunate enough to have the Rennshift - other than making the shift throws a little shorter, does the device make any other appreciable difference (excluding appearance)? |
