Hi all,
So I'm a noob here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) and have a paint color question. I owned a boxster a few years back but this is my first 914. It's a black '74, all orginal as far as I can tell. Factory 2.0 with FI. Bought it a couple weeks ago, replaced all the hoses and rebuilt the distriator and have been driving it for the last week or two. My goal is to fix it up myself and drive it. I want to keep it as orginal as I can. It has survived this long in tack and all orginal and feel it should stay that way to perverve history. Granted it def shows its age and needs work, but it's in decent shape. BUT... I hate black! lol So I thought I get your input on it's color. Should I keep it factory black? Should I stay with a factory color like the bright Orange? Should i go with bright red with a white top? Should I go with a blue? |

I don't have a big wallet right now. Planning on doing this myself. I've learned/taught myself everything else that I've tried to learn in the past so I figure body work & paint won't be any different. I know it's not going to be "show car" quaility, but I guess I'm going to more of a nice drivable car that look nice that I can drive every day and show off. And I figured it's only paint. Worst comes to worse I can always sand it down and do it again or pay someone else to redo it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I wasn't plannning on doing the wheel wells in the new color. Kinda planned on doing them and doing the underneath in a black just to seal everything and make sure it doesn't rust anymore. But it sounds like that might not be the way to go. My only concern about doing black is that I hear it is not a very forgiving color, ie. my body work skills or just dirt from the rode. Here is a couple pics of the only bad spots on the car, plus one dent in the pass door. Other then that it's all straight. It's just dull and dirty. No clear coat left. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Are you sure that is the only bad spot? Have you removed the floor tar? Looked at the passenger suspension console? checked all the trouble spots? Even old paint hides a lot of badness. |
