I recently finished rebuilding my engine and I am ready for the break in. Today, I went outside and quickly tried to start it for the first time. I only tried for a very short amount of time. I got a couple of backfires (with flames!) out the exhaust. It really sounded like a timing issue. It could be a carb issue but I figured I better get this straighten out first- so here is my question.

When rebuilding an 050 distributor- which way is the rotor supposed to point in relation to the drive flange? Does the dizzy in the picture have the correct flange orientation?

As far as I know, that piece can only go one way.
but, the gear that it plugs into can jump teeth from correct alignment.
