i have searched and searched, but cant find the right fix. i have a 74 914/4. my steering wheel shaft has side to side and up and down play. not a ton of play. but enuff to be annoying. and i need to fix it. i have found a number of fixes but they seem to be for early 911s. one fix is to replace the upper and lower bearings. another is to insert a sleeve between the bearing and shaft (thats what it looks like to me anyways). and the last looks a split ring over the shaft and then a plastic race looking thing followed by a spring to hold the race in place when the steering wheel is reinstalled.
is there a right up specific to our cars that i have missed? or has anyone made this repair. i sure would like to tighten up the shaft. thanks for your help. doug |

Forget the bushing and use this method:
Replacing the steering column bearings Takes 2-3 hours. Or, I can sell you my bent up bushing that wouldn't fit under the bearing because that wasn't the problem. |
