I see various posts with pictures of red top Optima batteries.
I did some measurements but I think you would have to modify the drain pan if you installed one on a stock 73 914 2.0L in the normal spot for the battery.

We are talking all stock stuff here as far as the engine.

Anyone have any experince here? Will one fit?

I just installed one a couple months ago, the only thing you need to do for it to fit in the stock location is to grind/cut off the tabs at each end of the battery so it will fit in the battery tray and use their battery clamp.
