I drove some mountain roads for a few hours yesterday - what a blast. I found paved forestry roads all over the place. This is a pull over spot (gravel) a few minutes from the house:

Welcome to Colorado!! I am from Flagstaff and you do have some great driving roads in and around, to and from, over hill and dale, or whatever way you want to look at the Durango area. I love driving to Silverton for coffee and then on to Uray, and points in all directions.
Watch out for the Colorado contigent; they are definitely fun loving group; like to cause......????? Great country to live in and enjoy all seasons. Steve |

There is a nice little lake on the way - you should make sure to stop there - very relaxing after carving the roads:  Oops - I did it again - what I meant to say was the drive to Silverton is boring and crowded and the coffee is terrible...
