What's the difference between 911 and 914 control arms. I bought my car as a basket case and it didn't have any torsion bars and the ones from my parts car don't fit

Not really, though there may be more variety of sizes available with the 911 spline count. Don't really know why they used different spline counts, but I imagine it's probably the same as the Super Beetles used as they were trying to use VW parts where possible to keep the price down.
