alternator parts, where are they? Options

I want to rebuild my alternator, and I am having trouble finding the diodes for sale. Also I cannot find the rubber parts associated with the alternator. I still have them: they are about 40 years old. So, I was thinking a refresh of diodes, bearings, brushes and rubber might be a good thing. I recognize that the smarter route is a rebuilt alternator or a new Chinese one. Any leads?

Just take it to a local starter/alternator shop and have them rebuild it. Usually around 60 bucks and they will do a better job than those repair stations in Mexico.

Every town in America has a little guy tucked away somewhere running a small Alternator/Starter repair shop...

You have to sniff these guys out and make friends with them.

You'll quickly learn that most of them will repair ANY starter or ALTERNATOR for less than 50 bucks.. You may have to wait a couple of days for him to turn it around, but the $$ savings are more than worth it.

I've been using my local guy for DECADES... There is absolutely no need to waste your money with the local FLAPS. Just compare the prices. No comparison.

Just as an example, I had my Bosch alternator on my 993 go out. 250-300.00 at FLAPS. Local guy said it blew a diode. 75.00 bucks to repair, and he replaced a bearing in it too.

Also, w/the local guy, if his work fails, he'll most likely fix it for free.
