Let's face it. Only in the 70's would a car come in so many wacky, crazy outrageous colors! The 914 was BY FAR no exception. Which are your favorite and least favorite of the 914 rainbow? The 914 came in 37 DIFFERENT COLORS (Actually 40, but 3 were the same color later renamed)! With as many as 14 OPTIONS A YEAR! I can’t think of ANY car that came in so many color selections! And let's face it - part of the appearance appeal of the 914 was the fact that it came in some really wacky colors. Having a 914 in a "normal" color almost just doesn't fit. For such a funky looking car, it's got to have a funky looking color!
With such an extensive variety of color selections, most of which you won’t find even remotely close to nowadays, which colors are your favorites - and least favorites? Post some good pics of 914s in your favorite colors - especially if it's yours! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) Here are the MANY varietals: RED - 5 Red Metallic (L97D) Bahia Red (L30E) Phoenix Red (L32K) Scarlet Red (L31M) Malaga Red (L30C) ORANGE - 3 Signal Orange (L20E) Tangerine (L21E) Nepal Orange (L20C) YELLOW - 4 (6) Canary Yellow (L11E) Saturn Yellow (L13M) ** Later renamed Chrome Yellow (L13M) Sunflower Yellow (L13K) ** Later renamed Summer Yellow (L13K) Berber Yellow (L11D) GREEN - 8 (9) Irish Green (L60E) Green Metallic (L97P) Willow Green (L63K) Ravenna Green (L65K) Zambezi Green (L64K) ** Later renamed Forest Green (L64K) Palma Green Metallic (L95K) Delphi Green Metallic (L99A) Viper Green Metallic (L96N) BLUE - 8 Adriatic Blue (L50E) Blue Metallic (L98P) Gemini Blue Metallic (L96E) Olympic Blue (L51P) Marathon Blue Metallic (L96M) Alaska Blue Metallic (L96B) Laguna Blue (L50C) Anacona Blue Metallic (L97B) METAL - 4 Gold Metallic (L97H) Silver Metallic (L96D) Diamond Silver Metallic (L97A) Copper Metallic (L99K) BASIC - 2 Light Ivory (L80E) Black (L041) ONE OFF Sahara Beige (was not an option, but somehow a couple 914s came in this factory color) COLOR COMBINATIONS - 2 (LE Can Am cars) 'Bumblebee' (U1V9) - Black (L041) body with Sunflower Yellow (L13K) accents 'Creamsicle' (U2V9) - Light Ivory (L80E) with Phoenix Red (L32K) accents |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I love Ravenna, it's so subtle. Once owned a '68 911R vintage racer in much less subtle Viper... another love or hate color.
But then I like Sahara Beige and Sepia. Favorite shades for the 914 include Tangerine, Safety Orange, Aubergine, Silver, Black, Alaska and Ancona Blue Metallic. My 914s are Tangerine and Safety Orange, our three early 911s are two Light Ivory Targas plus a Black '67S, though it was originally Slate Gray. Coolest color in our garage is on a 356S hotrod I've owned a long time: Smyrna. It was white when I got it, but couldn't wait to make it right. Porsche offered great colors back then. ![]() |

Porsche offered great colors back then. I agree with you. Can you imagine walking on the lot and seeing the same car in 15 different colors? Imagine that today! Now everything is white, black, silver, gray, beige, maybe red and maybe blue if you're lucky. Especially on the 914 (I think since it was intended for a younger audience) it just came in such an assortment of great colors. Colors even came in multiple shades (several blues, greens, yellows, reds, etc.). Just makes them even more interesting and unique. Never boring. |
