I looked at my first 914 yesterday. Now I'm not new to the 914, having followed them since they were new. But never owned one. This one was rust free, and at around $4000, I thought it might be nice. I guess my idea of nice and his is a bit different. I was, am, looking for a runner to fix up and play around with, but this was too much for the average back yard wrench. It rode nice, hard, but had a Bursche ??? muffler which was LOUD, and probably toast. If I were to buy it, I would have to have taken the entire car apart and cleaned/updated/buffed everything on the car to make it nice. It's just me, I guess I'm anal when it comes to cars, they have to be fine. And if I sell one, you can bet it's in better shape then when I bought it. That would have cost about $2-3000 dollars. It neede a complete paint job, seats, bumper rubber. I have been out of this (914) market for a while, but from what I see, the really good examples have really gone up in value. I;'ll keep looking for the right car and I'm in no rush. To those who have nice examples, keep them going and you're in the drivers seat.

Let's pull it back a tad here gang.
We sometimes don't realize how our words can be utilized if they are not coming out of our mouth. I'm a big one for that. Many don't know my tongue in cheek style. It seems like I was misinterpreted when I added my point about values... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) The tread title can be a little abrasive for a 914 guy, especially when one is describing what we've been seeing as a $4k car for... well, $4k. That said, most here seem to be trying to help. I think you can find it if you keep looking. As others have posted here, they're out there. An honest "Good Luck" and "Carry On" is in order. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) Gaspump. It's always nice to put a name in your signature so we know who we're talking to (yelling at, slandering, etc.) and who's talking to (yelling at, slandering, etc.) us. We're happy you're an experienced and knowledgeable guy. There's a bunch more here so, maybe you'll decide to fit in. I've owned 914's for over 30 years and there's a ton of guys here who simply put me to shame with their experience with these cars. Relax. Join the crowd and have fun. |

I"m relaxed and looking to join the crowd. I have opinions, just that. When I see a car that I think is a POS, that's my opinion. My mouth, when opened, has gotten me into more trouble than I want to admit. But that's just me. My first day of looking, I looked at 4 cars, none of which was owned by any member on this board. They all needed a lot of work. Fine, just not for me. I know I've come to a site run by fanatics, people who absolutly love these cars. That's why I'm here, to learn more about them. I'm old school and stuck there, like it or not. I don't beleive I offended any member of this board, and if so, sorry. Im talking in general terms about the car hobby, not 914's specific. Now, back to my search. By the way, the name is Bill. |
