Seems like the prices of used VR6 motors are coming down, I know Kennedy makes an adaptor and flywheel.

Unknown by me:
are they good motors?

can they be rebuilt at a resonable cost?

how long are they? they look longer than a "normal" V6 due to the odd layout.

are they heavy? iron block, aluminum heads (cannot find information on how much one weighs, some sites mention that a 4 equipped car is ~75 pounds lighter, but unless everything else is 100% the same, the numbers are meaningless )

Torque - Torque - Torque

older 2-valve: 172hp & 172tq 2.8-liter

newer 4-valve: 200hp & ??tq

The R32 240hp
Porsche is getting 250-255hp out of the engine they put in the Cayenne.

Mike, my buddy Chris, he was with me when I picked up the Air Dam at your house, now has over 185,000 miles on his '96 VR6 Golf. He says it's still running strong, and that's in a 2800lb car.

Chris told me that he dyno'd his car, about 1.5-2yrs ago: 220 at the wheels.
He only had the upgraded chip, intake, exhaust, ported & polished head & a cam.

There was an article about 1.5yrs ago about a shop in Anaheim, EuroSport I think it is, the owner took a 2.8 and made it into a 3.2, without touching the crank, he figured 275hp (cause they hadn't dyno'd it yet).

I remember 2yrs ago, I was leaning towards putting the Audi/VW 1.8t in my 914,
I sent out an email to a salvage yard list and got these prices for the 1.8t:
$1550.00 - $2350.00 - $2750.00 - $3500.00 - $4000.00

Last year Chris & I stopped at Bugformance in San Jose, and I mentioned putting the 1.8t in my 914, they had two 914s there.
Watch this long enuf and see the pretty Yellow 914.

They said while that would be a good little motor for that car, the VR6 might be better. Actually I think they used the term "kick-ass". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif)

They also added that they'd Love to put a VR6 in my 914, something about it being a neat little project.
I know Mike, YOU'd do ALL the work, but hey, that's You!

Re: the weight issue, ABD prepped two Golfs, one powered by the 1.8t, and the other by the VR6. I think the weight diff was 75lbs.
The article said while the Turbo motor might have a higher hp # because of the mods, that the VR6 was a better engine for the street, because of that Torque.
