Hi all
this may be a better topic for the Paddock, but thought I would start here. Many of you have cut a hole in your front hood to allow for fueling without opening the hood. I REALLY need this on Papa Smurf for racing. So...can you show me pictures and tell me what you used/bought and where you got it to do this conversion? TIA! |

I have no idea what would be allowed on the track, but here is how I did mine using the stock tank.
New 100mm Blau repro caps are available from VW parts dealers. Check Bughaus. The filler neck will need to be extended slightly. Go to a local diesel mechanic and ask them for a scrap piece of 4" exhaust tubing. I used a v-band exhaust flange to get the 4" pipe set on the tank. I soldered some stainless mesh from McMaster to bottom of the 4" pipe to keep random debris out of the tank. For the overflow catch can, I used a $3 pet food bowl. The hardest part to source is the Blau filler neck. Dave at TRE has them. He can actually sell you a soup-to-nuts through the hood filler kit if you don't want to figure all of this out on your own. If I had to do this again I would just buy his kit. Here are a couple of pics that were taken as I was test fitting and cutting everything up on mine.
