The 914 owners manual reccos a thinner oil in our hot weather - 5-30 IIRC - look for Montoya's post of an owners manual on here if you don't have a manual.
Also, synthetic will lack the old school oil additives, so you may want to look at something formulated for 1950's-70's classic/vintage cars. |

Also, synthetic will lack the old school oil additives, so you may want to look at something formulated for 1950's-70's classic/vintage cars. Your advice for the oil weight is ABSOLUTELY WRONG! VW and Porsche put 30 weight in at the factory, and that's what dealers used. Improvements to multi-grade oil products led to the use of 20w50. 5w30 will result in low oil pressure and probably overheating. Besides all that, why would you EVER use a thinner oil in hot weather, when the use of thicker oils is indicated. The Cap'n |
