Just want to make sure this is possible. I have a 1.7 case that I want to make into a 2.0 ish engine. I'm hoping with 2.0 heads, cam, cranks etc... it will be plug and run into a stock 1974 2.0 FI. Any potential problems with a 1.7 case?

1.7--1.8---2.0 cases--they're all the same and interchangable. No need to cut anything. I've built 2.0 engines out of 1.7 cases more then once. I'm surprised that so many people think the 2.0 case is something special. Only the serial # stamp makes it different.
