I burn out both my brake light elements when I apply the brakes. Replaced the switch at the pedal cluster and cleaned the taillight housing contacts.

That is really bizarre. These are 1157 bulbs correct? They are rated for 12V and shouldn't die when energized.
The only thing I could think would be a bad ground or VBAT that constantly opened and closed the circuit. Did this just start happening? |

He may be talking about your battery itself....which may be on its way out with a short in a cell or two....worth a check with a meter to see. |

It appears that the problem has been solved, but I am not really sure why. I went out looking for the 1157's like Mike had in his reply, the ones with the elongated contact patch. FYI, I had been purchasing Sylvania (made by OSRAN) bulbs, BUT, they only had the dot and not the elongated patch for the contact surface. Finally, after hitting Autozone, Kragen, and one independent, I found some at NAPA. The correct style is available as a Wagner product 17881. They were NOT available on the rack in the store, but rather on the shelf in back(Sylvania is on the shelf) for the parts counter to draw from. Got home, made the install and they have worked for the whole day, so we may have found the solution to the mystery problem. Thanks MIKE Sled |
