I'm trying to replace the electical portion of the ignition switch. I've got the steering wheel, lock nut, switchs, and ignition retaining plate off. I cannot however slide the ignition switch assembly out. Is there something else I am missing?
Do I have to remove the upper steering shaft? (first U-joint back)

Thanks.

Okay, here is some additional info for anyone who may find this in a search later.

Link to ignition switch "how to" article
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/9...tion_switch.htm

PN: 111-905-865K

Where to get it:

Don't want this to look like an ad for these guys, they just happen to have the info posted.

The switch is interchangable with the same year VW Bug. NOT interchangable with the VW Rabbit (this is the part I was sold by mistake)

Happy wrenching!
