I purchased a 911 magnesium engine case that has an odd serial number seeming authentically stamped in the correct place. 3180259. The case is a 1R series casting number. Any way to check this number out? Thanks! Brad

According to the engine s/n listings in "The Porsche Family Tree" book the only year that had a seven digit number beginning with 3 was 1968 but the lowest number was 3280001. Any chance you are miss reading the number?
