It's time for me to replace the old, cracking Pirellis on my 914. My car has 5.5-inch, four-bolt Fuchs. The current tires are 165/80-15s. I've been told that the Sumitomo HTR A/S P01s are pretty decent. They're offered in 195/60-15, 185/65-15, or 195/65-15 sizes. I think any of them will fit under my narrow-body.

Anyone have any recommendations for tires: brand, model or size? I won't be autocrossing the thing and neither will I drive the car in heavy rain or snow. So a high-performance all-season or even summer tire would work fine.

There are a number of different Rivs out there. Some will fit 205s under stock (or very slightly modified) 914 fenders, while others make even 165s a tight squeeze. Sounds like your wheels are closer to the latter than the former. There's a good chance that they were intended for a VW Bug, so the wheel is too far out in the fender.

I would suggest either sticking with 185s (or narrower!), or getting some 914 wheels.
