So I have a side view mirror question. I bought a junk yard jewel from a guy in Alabama. With the car I received 1 chrome mirror and 2 black plastic mirrors. The holes in the base of the chrome mirror are two narrow for the holes in the car. The black plastic mirrors seem to have a bottom part that bolts to the door, and they slip over that. Conceivably, the holes could fit those mirrors.

So my question is did the 75 or newer cars come with the black plastic mirrors, and could my doors be from a 75 or newer?

Yes, my bad, stainless mirrors. However, although you can turn a driver's side mirror about its base to fit the passenger side, there is a mirror with convex glass dedicated to the passenger side.

You can read more about exterior mirrors for the 914 here:

Good point. I wonder how hard those convex mirrors are to find.

I have a convertible that has the option of passenger side mirrors, but you cannot see them from the drivers seat if they are placed where they look OK. The convex might be a nice touch. I am thinking the trailer towing mirrors would look a bit overdone.
