Drove a friends 911 Turbo, now my 914 doesn't work..., Shift linkage problem or just jealousy rearing its ugly head Options

Pretty sure the 911 turbo has nothing to do with it, but it was a bad ass drive...

Anyway,

Took the 914 out for an end of the week drive and when I shifted into 4th it went into 2nd, which sounded cool when the engine revved and the tires barked but on the second try (at a lower speed) still 2nd and not 4th. I need 4th. I turned around and headed back to the house and when I was looking for 1st I am pretty sure I found 3rd. I also need 1st. I'm thinking that something in the linkage broke and hopefully this is a problem outside of the transmission. I'm going to dig around tomorrow or maybe later tonight but I just wanted to see if anyone had any educated guess on what the problem might be.

If it turns out that my 914 will not let me drive other cars with out pitching a fit, then we may have a problem...

Bushings and screws.

Also for 72 and earlier folks they have tail shift info. And on this site there are good mods for non-standard bushings. If you are doing bushings check the metal bearing one somebody has done for the firewall. Tons of info on shifters on both sites. Not much on jealous 914 behavior though!
