99% sure I'm going to pull the trigger and get a local '74 914 that has not been registered in 4 to 5 years.
If I do the California DMV calculator correctly I am looking at $501 based on a $2000 purchase price. If I read the documents correctly the late fee is 160% of the Vehicle License Fee which according to the online cal. is only $5, so $40 in fees? Any current real world experience in this? I agree with Scott (Boogie Man,) I registered mine at the California DMV with no issues. I stated I bought it for $500. I really paid more, but I don't like to give those thieves anything more than they deserve. It was cheap, fast, and I really couldn't believe it when he handed me all of the paperwork, registration stickers, and new plates. It had been sitting for 8 years and I was all geared up for a big fight with them over it. I think that sometimes it depends on which clerk you happen to get. This guy was cool, a few keystrokes on his magic keyboard, and I was out of there. The worst part about the whole ordeal was standing in line with all of the foreign nationals. It felt like being at a U.N. convention. NOBODY speaks english in Kalifornia any more.
