I think this will be a fun and great opportunity for other 914 World members who are coming to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in March 2015 to meet, get together and caravan our 914s up to Amelia Island, especially since the 914 is the featured car being honored at this event, the second most prestigious classic car show in North America (if not the world). Though the Concours is over four days, the first two days are individual and specialized events; some individually ticketed and some by invitation only. The third and fourth days (Sat and Sun) are the actual car shows, so I thought about doing two meetups, one before each car show on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is the Cars and Coffee at the Concours and Sunday is the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. The drive up Heckshire Drive (the road to Amelia) is an easy winding scenic road that goes right through the Intracoastal (inland water marshes) up along the coast and through Big and Little Talbot Islands to Amelia Island.

I am more than happy to welcome other World members to meet at my house. I have fresh ground coffee (I grind my own beans and get my beans from an excellent local roaster), breakfast foods, etc. Then we can all make a noisy 914 caravan up to Amelia. I am right next to the interstate that goes up to Heckshire and down the street from nice and affordable hotels on the way and next to the interstate for those staying from out of town. Unless you want to stay up at Amelia (which will cost more). Or, we can meet at my place then go to a local spot on the way for breakfast. Or we could all just meet at a place for breakfast and skip my house altogether. We can do this Saturday morning, Sunday morning, or both. I will be going to both days.

If anybody is coming and is interested in doing this, let me know so I can get an idea of how many to expect and make further more detailed plans to accommodate.

All members are welcome! Please comment after this post if you will be attending (even if you have already done so in an earlier post, so I may get an updated, accurate count). Please note that this will be an EARLY start due to those of us who are participating in the Concours that must drive our cars onto the green at a designated time.

FRIDAY 13 March What/Where/When:

WHAT: Member Cocktails and Conversation Evening Out
WHERE: Ovinte 10208 Buckhead Branch Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32246
WHEN: 7 PM - 10 PM
Ovinte is a nice indoor/outdoor wine bar and lounge (wine, beer, liquor, tapas) at the St. John's Town Center. Cocktails, conversation and comradery and ladies in slinky cocktail dresses oogling over our cars. Or at least us pretending they are. Got a 914 shirt? Wear it! The starting point for the day, where we will first meet, wake up (freshly ground American style, French press and Lebanese coffee), hang out and gather together as a group.

WHEN: 6:00 AM SHARP immediately after breakfast (BE ON TIME aka EARLY if you are not attending the breakfast as we need to leave at this time to get to the Concours in time to be first admitted to the green). The drive is 1 hour up Heckscher Drive. The alternate route is take 95N which is 10 minutes shorter but boring as hell. Heckshire is a pretty, coastal and winding drive. See route below.

* Note: Only display cars that have already been accepted by the Concours d'Elegance to be in the Cars and Coffee may park on the green. If your car is for display for the event, it MUST have the provided Concours Cars and Coffee decal displayed in the windshield to be in the show - NO EXCEPTIONS (so don't lose it).
Those who do not have cars on display may find parking on the street (where allowable), in designated and directed parking areas for the Concours, private yards (people living across the street and in the area charge a few bucks to park in the yard), etc.

Display cars are exited from the green to begin parking for the Sunday Concours promptly at this time. Your car on display WILL NOT be allowed to leave the green until 1:00 PM and must be off the green by 1:30 PM. The attendants of the Concours will assist and direct all cars. All you have to do is be there and drive.
