Hi everyone!! I am the owner of a 914 LE. There is a big Porsche event approaching. I have been debating on which to enter, the Full concours which includes engine bay, or the people's choice. The car has been restored, but still 40 years old so not perfect. Any advice??

Which concours show is it? Maybe it will depend on what kind of show it is, if it's a bigger, more renown show or a smaller one (standard wise and what competition you have to go up against).
I have a very nice LE Creamsicle, as does Johnny Blackstain and Steve down in Tampa (same state as me, we have the two drivers in FL). Mine is restored. The PO and I have put a lot of time, work and money into it. I'm still doing stuff to it, replacing and rebuilding mechanical parts for better reliability and performance. The nice thing is, though costly, when looking in the engine bay a lot of those parts are new which would be good for a concours. As beautiful and one of the nicest 914s I've seen mine is, I would not consider it a high standard concours car. There are a couple slight imperfections in the paint (pretty much only I see them), engine bay does not look brand new (although close to it), etc. For a concours show (a real one), you have to go though with a fine toothbrush and wax every nook and cranny. Some of these cars sometimes look better than they did new. Also consider, why mine isn't concours, I regularly treat all the vinyl (dash, seats, doors cards, back pad, console, etc.) with Meguire's Ultimate Interior Detailer because I love the shine on it. That wouldn't be concours because it looks cleaner (cars were not shiny like that in their day, but more matte). So even though it may look cleaner and prettier, it may not be period-correct. When in doubt, go with the People's Choice. Remember, it's half People's Car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) lol |
