I am looking for a roll call with details on any type 4 EFI people.
hope we can keep this thread on track. Please tell us What size motor What EFI brain are you using What throttle body setup do you have What size injectors are you using ignition? And any data logging? |

Do you want to know what I run currently or the various systems/revisions I have gone through? Very early adopter, I have been running Megasquirt on my 914s since early 2003, back when MS1 v2.2 was the only option. I was not the first install, but I believe I may have been the second, and also may be in the running for the person to have been running it continually on a 914 for the longest period of time. To my knowledge I am the only only running with a stock d-jet wiring harness.
I have ran many various configurations over the years, the great thing about MS is once you have it up and running its really easy to experiment and try new things. thats where most of the fun is for me. First deployment: What size motor: Stock 2.0L with hydraulic lifters/cam What EFI brain are you using: MS1 (stock firmware) v2.2 board + relay board What throttle body setup do you have: Stock 2.0 intake What size injectors are you using: Stock 2.0 injectors (though for a while i ran stock 1.7 injectors which are a much better size for that motor) ignition? Fuel only/dizzy triggered (this was back before ignition was an option) And any data logging? Always while tuning, you have to have data. Over the years on that system I removed the relay board from the equation, moved to a fully custom main board (unsupported, based mainly on the 2.2 board circuits) with custom injection circuitry to allow plug and play use with a stock d-jet harness. Ditched the stock firmware, moved to MSnS Extra and added ignition once it became available (still using the 4 point Pertronix trigger in the dizzy, triggering a Malloy 6AL ignition module. Eventually moved to an MS2 chip on the same setup. I ran that motor up until last year when I replaced it with a warm 2056 with 1.8 heads. Currently What size motor: 2056 What EFI brain are you using: MS2 (MS2/Extra firmware) on fully custom board (based on the 2.2 circuits) What throttle body setup do you have: Vanagon 2.1 (50mm) on a modded 1.8 plenum. What size injectors are you using: Stock 2.0 Ignition? Yes, pertronix/dizzy triggered Upcoming - I have a 36-1 trigger wheel from Mario(thedubshop.net) installed but have not added the circuitry on my board to use it yet. Along with that circuit change I am going to be adding a 2nd MAP sensor to the board for those days i feel like climbing the mountain passes around here. Also going to be playing with various late Vanagon(2.1) injectors as flow rates are preferable to the stock 914 injectors, they can be had new for dirt cheap and possibly with better spray patterns, and I have also heard rumors they are high impedance so i can ditch the inline resistors. And finally....did you build the ECU or do you buy these Megasquirt ECU units all built? The very first 2.2 board i ran I bought already assembled off of ebay (and then had to fix some of the ignition circuit customization they had on it) Every board I have ran since then I have built myself. The trick is to buy a nice fully temp controlled soldering station and various tip sizes/shapes (dont attempt this with any normal radioshack soldering iron) While the newer boards and MS3 have a ton of cool features/functionality to me most of it just added cost and complexity on a 914. I have not come across anything that i would want to do on a 914 that i have not been able to with the 2.2 based board though I do think the chip upgrade to MS2 is worthwhile, especially if you are going to control ignition. |
