Okay 914 GearHeads, give me input.
Are rear hubs from a '67 911 the correct choice for a true 5-lug conversion? Brakes... Are 3" offset "M" calipers a good choice for an budget upgrade? Are these from a mid 70's/ early 80's 911? What else is needed to convert a '72 914-4? Thanks in advance, George. |

Rear hubs designed for 911/912s prior to MY 1969 will not fit a 914 (or even a later 911). The whole setup is different, the carrier, the bearings, the hubs, and the stubs are different. The pre '69s use 2 wheel bearings, later cars use 1. The hubs are longer, as are the stub axles, and the splines are different. You can use 914/4 axles to mate up to the 914/6 transmission flanges. Since 914/6 CV joints are NLA, and have been for years, that's what we use. Have to change the assemblies, though, because the splines on the axles are different. I'm not clear what you have planned for the front, but you'll need 911 struts to utilize 911 brakes and hubs unless you use the custom hubs mentioned elsewhere on this list. The Cap'n
