Car info: 75 2.0 Djet stock except pertronix.
Last month I took the carbed 2.0 out of my silver car and put in another 2.0 with Djet. She's been a daily driver since then, and has done well except for running really rich, with the associated rough cold start and nearly impossible "hot" start. She was also getting MAYBE 15 mpg. Thursday night, I started the car after going into the store and it would barely fire up, running VERY choppy, like it was missing on a cylinder or more. It also wouldn't hold idle at stop lights (it would sputter and die and then refuse to re-start) and surged and sputtered as it went down the road, the only way I made it home was to avoid stopping completely until I got home. Now, when I start the car, it surges and tumbles, putting out a MASSIVE amount of blue/black smoke and refusing to accelerate or idle (see video) and it smells super rich. CLUCK FOR VIDEO (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i219.photobucket.com-13409-1431318216.1.jpg) I have: Removed a leaky cold start injector (dripping constantly, maybe 1/4 cup per 15min) Replaced very fouled plugs that had been in the car for the past month, see pic) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i219.photobucket.com-13409-1431318216.2.jpg) Checked and cleaned trigger points in distributor Soaked Aux-Air valve in pb-blaster and then verified proper function Replaced the fuel pressure regulator Verified spark Replaced cap/rotor And none of that has changed how she runs. It's so bad that the engine rocks side-to-side. Finally I even stated screwing with the timing, but that's really made no difference. I'm lost, and I need help being pointed in the right direction(s) to fix this PLEASE!! |

Ok, riddle me this batman;
How does a 914 go thru 1.75 gal of gas in 2min?!? I thought I ought to check 'bad gas' off my list, so I filled a 2gal gas can and re-plumbed the pump inlet so it would draw directly from the new gas. I cranked the starter for 45 seconds with the throttle to the floor, and she sputtered to life, albeit still very lumpy. The engine ran for 60 seconds and died. My 2gallon gas can was nearly empty when I checked it afterward... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) |
