Car info: 75 2.0 Djet stock except pertronix.

Last month I took the carbed 2.0 out of my silver car and put in another 2.0 with Djet. She's been a daily driver since then, and has done well except for running really rich, with the associated rough cold start and nearly impossible "hot" start. She was also getting MAYBE 15 mpg.
Thursday night, I started the car after going into the store and it would barely fire up, running VERY choppy, like it was missing on a cylinder or more. It also wouldn't hold idle at stop lights (it would sputter and die and then refuse to re-start) and surged and sputtered as it went down the road, the only way I made it home was to avoid stopping completely until I got home. Now, when I start the car, it surges and tumbles, putting out a MASSIVE amount of blue/black smoke and refusing to accelerate or idle (see video) and it smells super rich.
CLUCK FOR VIDEO (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i219.photobucket.com-13409-1431318216.1.jpg)
I have:
Removed a leaky cold start injector (dripping constantly, maybe 1/4 cup per 15min)
Replaced very fouled plugs that had been in the car for the past month, see pic)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i219.photobucket.com-13409-1431318216.2.jpg)
Checked and cleaned trigger points in distributor
Soaked Aux-Air valve in pb-blaster and then verified proper function
Replaced the fuel pressure regulator
Verified spark
Replaced cap/rotor

And none of that has changed how she runs. It's so bad that the engine rocks side-to-side. Finally I even stated screwing with the timing, but that's really made no difference.
I'm lost, and I need help being pointed in the right direction(s) to fix this PLEASE!!

Hi
I think I know what sort of frustrations you are having as I had the same issues. Thanks to Pancake Porsche and his advice we eventually sorted it. I don't think anyone is giving you shit but reading the post is a bit off putting because its like you aren't being methodical. Before you go off on a tangent you have to reaffirm in your mind what is right not keep looking for what's wrong because you no doubt have already touched on the answer but have passed it over.

If you have checked your injectors and they are firing then it's obviously not the injectors, distributor duel points, fuel supply.
If you have spark its obviously not your ignition system, coil, plugs. But you may have spark but just not at the correct time.

If your plugs are black it could be timing or air fuel adjustment or burnt oil because of poor compression. If its soot it looks like your too rich. If you plugs are oiled up you motor may just be worn out.

I had very similar issues but with a brand new motor.

Car ran well but idle was up and down

Car was hard to start when hot.

Plugs were sooty black

Acceleration was erratic

idle was too high or dropped to nothing and stalled

Finally it would not start at all.

As you have checked a bunch of components you have to at some stage assume the components are good but the tuning is not.

Solution was:-

1. Pertronix, and set correct fuel pressure.

2. Set timing statically.

3. With a fully charged battery and basic timing set start the bastard, foot flat to the floor keep turning it over, it will fire if you have spark, fuel. DO not pump.

4. May need to adjust throttle body air screw and tweak enrichment knob on ecu. Try about five clicks to the right of the factory setting for starters. If the air screw on the throttle body is either wound too far in or out it will give you an idea if you are too rich or too lean on the ecu knob.

5. Set timing dynamically, if you can't get a good reading set it to TDC on idle. May not be perfect but its a start.

6. Once its running and up to temp balance the idle and mixture adjustments then drive the crap out of it and check settings after you have driven it. If you don't have any test equipment take it to a VW bug shop for tuning.

I notice you cleaned the TPS, did you reset it as per the instructions?

Other than you buying someone on the forum an air ticket there isn't much more we can suggest.
