I can't remember which was originally on my 72, but I bought another early rear bumper which included a bracket, and it is different. (see pics) The narrow-set one fits the holes in my license plate so I'll be using that one, but I was just wondering what is the story with the other?

Looking at the photos, the 2 vertictal bars look the same length on both mounting plates?

If so, your "weird one" was not a UK plate holder, as UK number plates are (and were in period) much shorter in the vertical aspect than US ones.
