The issue with the car is that even if you can find all the very unique parts that go into a six, without the original motor and tranny you never even remotely reach the price of a numbers matching fully restored car. You can dump tons of money in it and still have a bastard child which will fetch a bastard price.
I have a good friend who has been restoring an original numbers matching 6 for 2.5 years, and sourcing its very unique parts. The car will be perfect - quite literally since no expense has been spared. Of course he will score 6 figures when it is sold. I have witnessed how difficult getting specific parts are and the painstaking refinishing and rebuilding. Due to the scarcity of parts, motor and tranny, the ebay car will only be a very expensive hobby car. I wish the owner the best of luck owning a real six which will never be a real six again. But that might not be a bad thing. |
