I don't see Melba, Turtle girl, Jenny, Mrs. K and several others anymore. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Before I registered back in 04 (I was a guest for a year), There were these women and others posting and hanging out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) I know life pulls everyone in other directions but did the crazy sob's chase them away? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

Seriously?!?!?! I helped my Dad work on cars when I was young. I got hooked on Sports Cars around the age of 16. When I hit my early 20's I started looking for an MG to build up. Thank goodness I couldn't find one I could afford (Lucas, Prince of Darkness and all that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ) and I found my 914 instead. That was a looong time ago and I've been a Gear Head ever since. Our local region has a small group of female drivers that regularly beat their male significant others at driving events. Last week I drove up to Oklahoma City (3 hours, one way, alone in my 914) to help teach at a Ladies only autocross the Warbonnet Region put on. They asked for our help - and instead of making fun of them, we dove in to support and encourage them. Too many times, I've run into the attitude, "Girls don't use tools"... or "You actually like cars? How unfeminine of you!". Why would I publicize something that might make people ridicule me? My personal favorite was at an SCCA autocross. Some guy had apparently told all of his male buddies to come watch him and he'd show them how it was done. Turns out some girl kicked his ass and won first place in the men's class (C Stock). Dude (or as I like to call his type "Dude without the E") had the nerve to make some crack as we were riding in the back of a truck to go out to work corners, that "girls shouldn't race with the guys". I still have the trophy and jacket I won in C Stock at that race. As a result of variations of that type of attitude - I tend to not publicize my "automotive leanings". Shortly after I got him, I asked my 914 if he cared if I had boobs or balls - he told me "I don't care, I just want to be driven around corners". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) You can think what you want, but we're out there - and we're not going to give somebody the time of day if we think we're going to get attitude. |
