Looking for an aftermarket shift knob with same pattern but allen wrench mount instead of the crush bushing. I have a rebuilt shifter getting installed and wanting to use a more solid shift knob. Also, what is the diameter of the OEM shift knob? I had a old 911 threaded shift knob but no way it will go over the 914 shift post, the 911 knob diameter is way too small.

Thanks all.

I just drilled and tapped the base of the original shift knob for a 4mm allen screw.

Be careful. . the original knobs were made from Bakelite, which is very hard but very brittle. . It has a tendency to crack at the lower thin edges. .
I have remade a couple with a brass sleeve insert to increase the knobs lower strength and also have a closer fit with the shift handle. . even on those the thickness of the brass sleeve was less than .030. .
My experience is even with the tightest crush sleeves, the knobs can be twisted with
minimal exertion. . a solution is to drill a locating hole through the knob and into the shift arm, Then tap a thread in the steel arm, not the brittle bakelite, and use a very small allen head set screw.
