Hello everyone (IMG:style_emoticons/default/help.gif)
Just discovered a crack around 6 inches long in my windscreen / windshield. I'm based in the uk so was wondering if anyone has a lead on where I can source one from or for any uk based members have you had yours replaced by one of the national windscreen companies via your car insurance ? Did they manage to locate one ok ? Any issues. Many thanks for any advice Jonathan |

Great news Jon,
Just be careful how they plan to fit it. I'd give them a call to discuss this critical detail. All insurance based national windscreen companies refused to use the factory Butyl method as it doesn't meet todays regulations (which have to be airbag safe, even on cars with no airbag!) and they refused to remove and replace the aluminium trim surround & clips in ANY method they chose to bond the new screen in. This was through fear of damaging the trims & clips on removal and the cost of replacement being excluded from their responsibility. In the end I had to remove and fit my windscreen & trims myself as when my insurance sent out 3 different national companies they refused to touch it once they saw the car. (Despite all the "sure we can do it" conversations we'd had before they came out!) PM me if you have any issues and make sure you get a new clip kit if you're planning on refitting the trim as they can only be changed while the screen is out. Most UK insurance companies will EXCLUDE trims and clips in their windscreen policy. It's worth checking with your insurance now while you have the 3 week wait. Regards Darren |
