Hello everyone (IMG:style_emoticons/default/help.gif)
Just discovered a crack around 6 inches long in my windscreen / windshield. I'm based in the uk so was wondering if anyone has a lead on where I can source one from or for any uk based members have you had yours replaced by one of the national windscreen companies via your car insurance ? Did they manage to locate one ok ? Any issues. Many thanks for any advice Jonathan |

I'm sure others will chip in, or indeed set me straight about bonding
The factory butyl method allows some flex in the shell without causing stress on the screen Bonding the screen using modern products secures the screen so well I'm positive some members have had issues with cracked screen as a result of the flex being transferred into the screen Other things to watch out for with the big national companies, the don't Stanley knife into through the paint and ecoat under the screen so rust starts to develop (my brothers 1 year old BMW - fortunately done at the steelers so steeler had to fix the problem some 2 years later when it started to leak). Remove all the interior trim yourself! Also find out about who makes the screen. If yours is original Porsche, insist they replace with Porsche quality. I had the rear screen replaced in my Disco by a national company and they used a non Landrover (should be Pilkinton) glass to replace it. 6 years down the road its scratched to buggery, so it's not a case of poor wiper rubbers, just poor / soft glass that scratches when you get mud and grit on it. Original 15 year old front screen is virtually unmarked and gets equally muddy / gritty down the often flooded lanes There are very good reasons why the good Dr used the products and fitting methodology, just because something is more modern, does not mean better Good luck and I really hope it works out & maybe I have just been uniquely unlucky with my personal experience Either get clips from Mark at 914 rubber, or if looking for a Euro based vendor maybe try Patrik. Nice guy. He has a direct sales site here http://914er-shop.de/de/chrom-zierteile/cl...eibenrahmen-set but also has an eBay shop. If you just buying the clips it's probably better to go via the bay as his own shop site, payment is via bank transfer which will cost almost as much as the clips..... |
