This picture says it all.
I have no idea how you would need to drive an 18-wheeler in order to invert an engine on a pallet WITH THE PALLET STILL ATTACHED: Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() |

This is why I have a standard policy of FREE crating for any engine we sell. I've shipped engines all over the world and while I can be accused of killing trees to make lots of crates, I've never had an engine with a lick of damage.
I even wrote an article on how to crate a Porsche engine, so I've probably indirectly saved other engines. If you buy an engine, insist on crating and if you sell an engine, insist on crating. I ran a Trucking Hub operation when I got out of college so I know first hand the butcher like qualities of trucking. Make a crate that can withstand the biggest idiot. But that's simply not true. There's always been idiots, and non-idiot people have always needed to safeguard themselves against the idiots. The only way to really learn that lesson is through a crash course in lost money/merchandise. I learned my lesson back in my mid 20's when I was running a recording studio. I bought a reel to reel deck from another studio halfway across the country. They didn't pack it well, and Fedex destroyed it. The shipment was insured, but Fedex still refused to pay the insurance (because Fedex is a fucking racket full of angry drivers who couldn't give a shit about your package...but that's another subject altogether). I was SOL, and out more than a grand. That money was gone, poof, see ya. Dumbasses are everywhere. It takes experience dealing with stupidity to learn how to safeguard yourself from stupidity. Age has no bearing on that. I now build custom recording studio gear that gets shipped all over the world. I've had only one item damaged in 8+ years, out of hundreds of orders shipped. Why? Because I learned a lesson from that Fedex incident, and I pack my shipments as though they might be dropped from a great height by an idiot...because they probably will be. Again, age has nothing to do with it. |
