I miss my friend Nord. He left us way too early. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) He introduced me to this amazing road and loved to drive it. So,. . .
I'm hosting a Nord memorial run up to Artist Point on Mt Baker on Saturday, August 13th. I know Nord's thing was to do a breakfast GTG and drive up in the morning, but traffic always is horrible on the mountain in the morning. So I'm purposing an evening run with a pre-run BBQ at my shop in Anacortes. So here's the plan. . . 4pm - Meet @ my shop which is about 10 miles west of I-5, exit 230 (12796 Quantum Lane #14, Anacortes, WA 98221) where I'll host a BBQ consisting of some sort of flesh, chips, sodas and such. 5:30 - We depart and cruise up Chuckanut drive and onto the Mt. Baker hwy for a mildly spirited drive up to Artist Point. By the time the road gets good, most folks on the mountain should be heading down for dinner in the opposite direction. By the time we get to the top, there should be minimal people up there and should have a clean run back down. Folks from down south (Kevin) should miss all the traffic so you all are out of excuses!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It would be nice to have a rough idea of who plans on attending so I have enough food. |

I'm super excited for tomorrow. Those who are coming, you can park anywhere it's convenient since we'll probably be the only folks in the business park Sat afternoon. Double park triple park, it doesn't matter. 914 or not; just come.
I'll have the grub ready by 4pm. I plan on having a cooler stocked with bottled water & some sodas. If you need to gas-up, the Chevron station at the Swinomish Casino just on the opposite side of the hwy has the cheapest gas in Anacortes (currently $2.35 for Regular). Costco in Burlington is usually about 2-5 cents cheaper (I-5 exit 229 George Hopper Rd.) When we depart around 5:30, the route we'll be taking is as follows: hwy-20E, Bayview Edison Rd N., Farm to Market Rd N., W. Bow Hill Rd., Chuckanut Dr. N.(hwy 11), I-5N, take exit 255 onto hwy 542 East (Mt Baker hwy) follow that to Deming where we'll meet the members of the Chuckanut Sports Car Club. From there it's twisty road up about 4500' in elevation gain to spectacular views of Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan. Nord on far right next to his silver 914. RIP my friend. . . ![]() |
