I just put in new bronze coupler bushings on my side-shifter, and am looking to tighten up the linkage as much as I can. Question: are bronze shift rod bushings at the transmission available? I'm talking about replacing the plastic bushing that snaps in at the transmission, the shift rod goes through it. The plastic ones I've had always have had slop even when new. Thanks...

I just replaced mine with a PMS bushing. Works great but the shift console does need to be machined in order for the bronze bushing to fit. $20 at the local machine shop and you'll be good to go.

IIRC (it has been a couple of years) PMS make them slightly oversized in anticipation of some ovaling due to wear on the console. On their recommendation I used a little hand file for a perfect fit. |
