I didn't. Caught major flack for it on here. Consulted with a number of 914 specialists and they said I didn't have to and they had run turbos without them in the past on the street and track with no issues. With the washers, the fit was all off. So I left them off. Only concern was being careful when installing to not crank them down so hard as to damage the rack.
